A place to practise and learn together
The Buddhist Society of Australia is a volunteer-run charity in Sydney. We hold meditation sessions, Dharma discussions and gatherings, and we welcome people of every tradition and background, including those who are simply curious.
Our purpose
The Buddhist Society of Australia aims to promote the teachings of Buddha, provide support for Buddhist practitioners, and contribute to the well-being of the community through charitable activities aligned with Buddhist values.

What we do
Meditation sessions. We introduce Buddhist meditation techniques and practise them together in a calm and supportive setting. The sessions suit people who have never meditated as well as experienced practitioners.
Dharma discussions. We explore the teachings of the Buddha together in an open, conversational way. Topics have included the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, Buddhist ethics in daily life, and mindfulness and compassion.
Gatherings. We come together for collective practice, including chanting, reflection and sharing the teachings.
Where we meet
We meet online for meditation three evenings a week. The days and times, and how to join, are on our Sessions page.
Who is welcome
Everyone. We are not tied to one school of Buddhism, so people from every Buddhist tradition are welcome, and so are people with no background in Buddhism at all. You do not need to be Buddhist to join us.
Who we are
We are a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, and everyone who helps run the Society is a volunteer. You can read more about the Society and its registration, or follow what we have been doing in our News.
If you have a question, send us a message and a volunteer will reply.
Not to do any evil;
to embrace the good;
to purify one’s mind:
this is the instruction of the Buddhas.
