We collect as little personal information as we can, and we use it only to reply to you and to run the Society.

Who we are
The Buddhist Society of Australia (ABN 35 892 665 974) is a small charity run by volunteers. This page describes how we choose to handle personal information. You can reach us at info@buddhistsocietiesofaustralia.org.
What we collect and how
- When you contact us by email, we receive your name, your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- When you become a member, our rules require us to keep your name and contact details in a register of members.
We collect this information directly from you. No law requires you to give it to us.
Why we collect it
We use it to answer your questions, to tell you about our sessions when you ask, to consider membership applications, and to keep the register of members. If you choose not to give us your details, we cannot reply to you or consider a membership application.
Who sees it
Your information is seen by the volunteer committee members who handle enquiries and membership. Under our rules, members may ask to inspect the register of members, and the committee can refuse or limit access to personal details. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Some companies process information on our behalf so that this site and our email can work:
- Cloudflare hosts this website. To deliver and protect the site it processes technical information such as IP addresses.
- Google provides our email through Google Workspace.
These companies operate in other countries, including the United States, so your information is likely to be processed outside Australia.
This website
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools on this site, and we do not set cookies.
Seeing or correcting your information
Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it where our rules and the law allow. We must keep the register of members and the records of the Society for at least seven years. Members can ask the committee to restrict access to their details on the register.
Concerns
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, write to us. The committee will look into it and reply to you.
