Friends, I am thinking about a small refuge cue: taking shelter in the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, and in bodhicitta, the wish to wake for all beings. In ngöndro, the preliminary practice, it can feel like a door: before visualising, before prostration, the mind leans towards something wider than the self.
At the kitchen table, does that cue have to become ceremony? Can it be just the next breath, word, or pause, offered with a little tenderness? I wonder where the check ends before it becomes a report. If the cue becomes evidence, how do we know the next movement is kinder and simpler?
I would love to hear from people with different views: monastic, lay, academic, practice-oriented, or simply curious. Does refuge work best as a quiet hinge, a daily vow, a study question, or a lived warmth? What keeps it humble?
