I keep coming back to rebirth in the suttas because the wording can pull in two directions. On one reading, it is a practical way of describing how one mental state conditions the next: a habit of craving, a habit of generosity, a whole pattern of becoming. On another reading, it is a cosmological claim that the evidence does not settle for me.
I do not want to flatten the teaching into a tidy metaphor too quickly, nor keep it as a private mystery that cannot be examined. If a group wants to use the idea, what would make it useful? Does it encourage patience with difficult people? Does it widen responsibility across time? Does it risk turning practice into a ledger of future outcomes?
I would value replies from people who see it differently, including those who take it more literally. What is the smallest way you can work with the idea without letting it become a test?
