A practice room can ask, “Are you here?” without making a list of points. A bow, a lamp, a pause—these can point without keeping score. When the mind wants a trophy, the practice can turn into a test: I must sit better, know more, look calmer. The Buddha’s teaching points to seeing as it is, not earning a certificate.
For me, the room is a hinge. It opens when attention returns, closes when it tightens. If a cue becomes a receipt, notice the narrowing and return to the breath, to care, to the next kind act.
How do you keep a practice space welcoming without turning it into a ranking? What cues help you stay open, and when do they start to look like medals?
