I keep noticing how a tiny practice can start as a handrail and quietly become a report card. In first year, I used a brief pause before lectures: one breath, shoulders checked, a thought of goodwill. It helped me meet people as people, not tasks.
But when the pause becomes “did I do it properly?”, it can tighten. I’m curious how you keep practice soft:
- Do you use a cue, a bow, or a phrase?
- What tells you it’s becoming performance?
- Can a practice stay unfinished without feeling failed?
I’m leaning toward the idea that a small practice is a direction, not a score. What do you make of that?
