Hi all! Between lectures and part-time shifts, I’ve been trying to make walking meditation less like a checklist and more like a hinge. I like the idea that each step can be a small return to the body, to the breath, to the intention behind the practice. It sounds simple, but my restless mind loves to turn it into a score: Did I notice the heel? Did I count? Was it long enough?
I’m curious how people keep walking practice alive without it becoming a test.
- Do you use a phrase, a bow, or just the ground underfoot?
- Does a short walk between tasks work, or does it need a longer sit?
- How do you notice when the practice has hardened into a rule?
I’d love to hear views from those who lean into formal structure, those who prefer loose, everyday practice, and anyone who finds walking meditation hard to keep from becoming a mood. What keeps a step from becoming a trophy?
