Can a small return stay a doorway?
After a sit, I sometimes notice the mind reaching for a verdict: that was good, not enough, too loose. It wants to turn the return into a score.
The Buddha’s teaching, as I understand it, is not about making the mind a tidy little monk. It is about seeing what is already there, without extra decoration. A return can be plain: notice, turn back, keep the breath. No medal. No repair.
I am curious how others keep a small practice from becoming a test. If a cue is useful, where does it start to become a label? If a return is gentle, where does it become a habit that closes the room?
What keeps a return open, without turning it into a badge?
