Hi all. I’m still figuring out whether the little habits I’ve started are helping me stay open, or just becoming polished routines.
A few weeks ago I added a small cue after sitting: fold the cushion, pause, take one slow breath, and then move to the next ordinary thing. Most days it feels like a hinge: it opens the next act without turning it into a performance. Some days I skip it and feel no loss. That worries me a little, because I’m not sure how I’d know if it has faded into empty routine.
I’m trying to ask: can a second breath be a check, not a seal? A check might ask, “Am I still here, still willing to be gentle?” A seal might demand proof that the sitting worked. If the cue can be skipped without guilt, does that mean it is no longer useful, or that it has become flexible enough to live with me?
I’d love to hear from people who have tried small practices at home. What do you notice when a cue stops feeling special? Does it become quieter, useful, or gone?
