I keep thinking about a tiny pause before I open my laptop: one breath, a soft intention to be clear, and then I work. It is not a full sitting, and it is not a performance.
For me, the Buddha’s teaching often shows up in small transitions—between a lecture note and a walk, between a message to a friend and a moment of silence. The question is whether those tiny pauses can carry the weight of dependent origination without turning into another checklist.
What I am curious about:
- Does a brief pause need a phrase, or can it be only a return to the body?
- Can it stay warm when we do it alone, with no room, no bell, no shared intention?
- When does a cue become a habit, and when does it become a doorway?
I would love to hear from people who lean more literal, more ritual, or more plain. If you have a small practice that keeps the teaching close, I’d like to know what makes it work for you.
