Can a short sit keep a path?
I’ve been noticing that my practice gets squeezed by lectures, part-time work and the usual first-year whir. Some days I can manage a brief breath sit before the day starts, and it’s enough to notice what’s already here: the breath, the body, the small urge to rush.
I’m wondering whether a short sit can stay a path on its own, or whether it needs a wider frame—walking, loving-kindness, community, and the Buddha’s teaching as a map. I don’t want to turn a small practice into a test of how much time I have, but I also don’t want it to become just a mental break that disappears as soon as the day gets busy.
If you’ve found a way to keep practice alive in a full life, what helps? Is a short sit a complete expression, a seed, a pause, or something else? I’d love replies from people who lean more minimal and people who think the wider path is essential.
