I’ve been sitting a few months now, mostly in my kitchen, and I’m trying to keep it from turning into a little scorecard.
I read a line that called my candle a “check, not a verdict,” and that helped. It meant I could notice friction before blame, without giving myself a gold star. But I’m not sure where the line is when the practice starts to feel tidy. If I can sit gently and then quietly count myself as better, have I kept the practice useful, or have I made it into evidence?
I’m also curious how others keep loving-kindness from becoming a performance. Do you have a simple question you ask yourself? Like, “Am I marking attention, or approving of myself?” If not, what helps you notice early?
I’d love replies from people who are further along, beginners, or people who think all of this is overthought.
