I’ve been trying a small cue before I open my laptop: one slow breath, then a quiet wish for the people around me. It is not a big ritual. It is just a door into the day.
What I’m curious about is whether a cue can stay soft when the mind starts wanting a medal. Some mornings it works like a hinge; others it becomes a little scoreboard, and I can tell by how tight my shoulders are.
A few thoughts I’m carrying:
- A cue should point to attention, not turn into a test.
- Loving-kindness can be a practice, not a performance.
- Community can help by keeping the cue small and human.
I’m not sure if the Buddha’s teaching here is mainly about method, motivation, or both. If you’ve used a practice cue, what kept it from becoming a habit that feels too stiff? And if you prefer fewer cues, what does your sitting or walking practice look like when it is kept simple?
