I keep coming back to a small cue between study blocks: one bow, one breath, a single phrase of kindness. It works, until it becomes a report. Then it is not a doorway, just a tally.
I do not want loving-kindness to become a checklist, nor to disappear into ordinary niceness. I want it to stay thin enough to carry, and wide enough to include the person I am least fond of.
What is the smallest practice that keeps it honest? A phrase? A pause? A glance out the window? I am curious how others keep a cue from hardening into a badge. If you lean towards more form, tell me where it begins. If you lean towards no form, tell me what stops it becoming mere habit.
