I keep coming back to the small bow before sitting. For me, it has started to feel less like a performance and more like a handrail: a way to let the turning toward the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Saṅgha show up in the body before the breath begins.
I am still new to this, and I worry the bow can become a little “done” stamp, as if I have earned something before I have really sat. So I am asking: does a simple form need to become concrete care for people after a small practice, or is it enough that it softens the room inside me?
Where does a cue become the path? If loving-kindness starts as a phrase, does it have to reach a colleague, a family member, or a stranger, or can it stay as a quiet widening? I would like to hear from people who see ritual as central, and from those who see it as a useful support only.
