Can dependent arising be a daily map?
I keep coming back to the Buddha’s teaching on dependent arising as a description of how things arise and pass, rather than a cosmic rule. In practice, it can be a quiet way to notice a chain: a tone, a thought, a tightening, a reaction.
I’m drawn to using it as a practice note: when irritation appears, ask what came just before it, and what it is feeding. That keeps me close to the present moment, and less likely to turn a teaching into a story about who I am or where I will go.
My question is whether this can stay useful without a fixed self, without a future life, and without a lot of theory. Can it become a plain lens for cause and condition, more like watching weather than proving a metaphysics?
I’d like to hear from people who find it helpful, limiting, or simply too subtle for everyday use.
