Hi all, Lamp here. In my study group we keep returning to lamrim, the staged path, as a way of arranging refuge, the four noble truths, and bodhicitta, the wish to awaken for others. I love how it can feel like a map: first notice suffering, then the causes, then a way out, then a path. But sometimes I catch myself turning it into a ladder, as if I must climb neatly from one rung to the next before I am allowed to care for anyone nearby.
Can the stages stay practical without becoming a scoreboard? I’m curious how others keep the map alive: do you use a phrase, a visualisation, a short bow, or simply ask, “What does this moment need?” I’d welcome views from those who find staged teaching helpful, and from those who find it too structured.
