I’ve been sitting with a simple question after my ngöndro: how can a long practice stay gentle in a small Sydney home, where there is little space and the day keeps pulling? I like the Lamrim path as a map: refuge, the three jewels, bodhicitta, then patience and loving-kindness. But sometimes I catch myself turning the map into a scoreboard—counting prostrations, checking whether my visualisation is correct, wondering if I am doing enough.
I would love to hear how others keep practice warm without turning it into a test. If you come from a more monastic rhythm, a lay home practice, a quieter meditation tradition, or a less ritualised way, what helps you stay close to the Buddha’s teaching without hardening into habit? Is there a phrase, bow, breath cue, or small act of care that keeps the path alive? I am especially interested in how bodhicitta can stay practical—nearby, not just grand—when we are tired, busy, or uncertain.
