I’ve been using dependent arising as a practice note: notice tone, thought, tightening, reaction, and let it pass. No fixed self, no future life, no heavy theory. The question is whether that use is enough for a lay path, or whether it quietly drains the teaching of its edge.
I’m not asking for metaphysics. I’m asking for reasons: when a map is treated as a belief, does it become rigid? When it is treated as a skill, does it lose depth? I’d like reports from people who practise with the Buddha’s words as living pointers, and from those who keep it deliberately secular.
What helps you stay with cause and condition without turning it into a doctrine? What makes it seem limiting? I’m especially interested in whether a short daily practice can carry enough weight, and whether lay practice can be sufficient without retreats or rituals.
