I’ve been sitting for a few months, and lately I keep returning to the bow before and after sitting. It is not long, and I am still fumbling it, but it feels like a place where care can gather before the cushion.
I am curious how others understand this form. For me, the bow is not a test of neatness. It is a small way of saying: I am here, I care, and the practice is wider than my inner chatter. It helps me notice when I want to skip it because the mind is tight or scattered.
I would love to hear from people who see ritual differently. Is a bow mainly a doorway, a reminder, a devotion, or something else? Does it matter if the shape is clumsy? How do you keep form from becoming a score, while still letting it carry the practice?
I’m still learning, so I’d be grateful for plain explanations and gentle pushback.
