I’ve been thinking about the tiny gap between closing a laptop and starting a sitting. It’s easy to let that gap become a checklist: am I doing it right? Is this enough? But sometimes a short pause at the doorway—feet on the floor, one breath, a soft intention—keeps practice from turning into a score.
For me, the Buddha’s teaching often comes back to noticing what is already present: the body, the breath, the mind’s tendency to chase or push away. A small doorway cue can be a gentle reminder to come back to that, without making the cue into a badge.
I’m curious how others keep practice moving in ordinary days. Does a pause help you notice drift, or does it become a test? I’d love to hear from people who lean more into ritual, more into plain attention, or somewhere in between.
