The kitchen table is our family council, snack station, and occasional battlefield. I noticed a pause between my kid's request and my answer: one breath, the spoon still on the bench, the mind trying to be the good parent. It was not a sit. It was not a report. It was just a small return to the room.
I think that is enough to call practice, but I am not sure. Some days it feels like kindness. Some days it feels like a tiny handrail. Other days it is just tiredness wearing a calm face.
I keep returning to the Buddha's teaching on attention: noticing what is there without rushing to make it mean something. Does a pause need a cue, a posture, or a quiet room? Can it count when the drawer is open and a child is asking for a biscuit?
I would love to hear from people who practice differently. What counts as practice in the middle of a busy home? What do you do when the pause feels too small?
